Drilling Program

Our Haynesville shale horizontal well drilling program remains the primary focus of our capital program and is the driver of our organic growth in natural gas production and proved reserves in 2019. The acquisition of Covey Park in July 2019 added over 700 mmcfe/d of production and 2.9 Tcfe of proved reserves. The combination of our successful drilling program and the Covey Park acquisition provided pro-forma production growth of 34% in 2019. Our proved oil and natural gas reserves increased to 5.4 Tcfe at year-end 2019. In 2019, we drilled a total of 64 operated wells (46.5 net to us) in the Haynesville shale which used our latest well designs that incorporated both longer laterals and enhance well completion programs. These wells had an average initial production rate of 25 MMcf per day. We spent $511 million for drilling activities in 2019, of which $486 million was spent in the Haynesville Bossier and $25 million was spent in the Eagle Ford and Bakken. We achieved an all-in finding cost of 72¢ per Mcfe, excluding price-related revisions.
